Blizzard’s official StarCraft Remastered website has started glitching on purpose, days before BlizzCon 2026 kicks off in Anaheim. Game Informer‘s John Carson first flagged the odd behaviour on Bluesky on September 3, noting that visiting the page now triggers warping visuals across the site’s text and background art rather than the static page fans have seen for years.

The company has made changes to the website for StarCraft Remastered, causing several elements all over the page to display a variety of glitching effects, and as of publication the effect was still live. StarCraft 2’s website, on the other hand, doesn’t have any glitching effects whatsoever, which narrows the guessing game to which corner of the franchise Blizzard actually wants people looking at.

Players immediately started poking at the site’s code to see what was hiding underneath the static:

Reddit User Decodes Messages Dated August 2575

A Reddit user going by RaiausderDose dug into the page’s developer console and found the glitch wasn’t random. The website’s code fetches a transmission, activates an RGB glitch effect, clears the developer console, and gradually shows classified records. Repeated visits pull up different fragments of the same buried story.

Over time, repeated requests return different combinations of material, and so far at least eight distinct message fragments have been identified, touching on troop movements and classified reports. The kicker is the timestamp stamped across the logs.

The messages state that they were written in August 2575, roughly 69 years after the events of StarCraft II’s last expansion, Legacy of the Void, which was released over a decade ago. That jump would let Blizzard keep the Koprulu Sector’s established lore intact while dropping in a brand new cast, something the redacted names scattered through the logs seem to hint at too.

Dan Hay’s Shooter, Rumored Since Jason Schreier’s 2024 Book

The teaser lands on top of nearly two years of reporting that Blizzard has a StarCraft shooter in the works. The project first surfaced in Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier’s book on the studio’s history, which confirmed Blizzard was working on a new StarCraft video game, with development helmed by Dan Hay, an ex-Ubisoft developer who had previously led development on the Far Cry series.

Windows Central’s Jez Corden went further in January, saying the shooter would be the headline reveal of the show. “The headline for Blizzcon 2026 is most likely going to be StarCraft,” said Corden. “It was previously reported that StarCraft is getting the third-person shooter treatment, and I confirmed these rumors true via my own sources a while back.”

A Nexon Project Muddies the Picture

Adding to the confusion, a separate report out of South Korea claimed Nexon’s shooter division is close to a deal to build its own StarCraft game. Wccftech noted the mixed signals leave it unclear whether the glitching site is “teasing Dan Hay’s internally developed AAA shooter, a Nexon-driven mainline StarCraft project, some combination of both, or something else entirely”.

Blizzard has stayed quiet on all of it. Blizzard has not officially acknowledged the ARG, confirmed a new StarCraft project, or commented on any of the Nexon rumors. No title, no release window, nothing beyond the flickering website and years of accumulated rumor.

BlizzCon Opens September 12 in Anaheim

Whatever the glitching site is building toward, the wait is short. BlizzCon 2026 goes live from 12-13 September, 2026, alongside expected showings for Diablo IV, Overwatch and World of Warcraft’s next expansion. If StarCraft finally gets its shooter, or its RTS successor, the opening ceremony on September 12 is where the classified logs stop being classified.
