FURIA’s sidde Talks FalleN Succession, YEKINDAR IGL Duties After EWC Exit

FURIA’s run at the Esports World Cup 2026 ended in fourth place in Paris, and the fallout has put a number on the clock: FalleN’s retirement, YEKINDAR’s growing in-game leading workload, and a roster that coach sidde says still needs more discipline before it can chase trophies again.

Fourth Place in Paris After FUT and Legacy Losses

FURIA arrived at EWC 2026 in good form, and their quarterfinal win set the tone. FURIA Esports eliminated G2 Esports 2-1, winning Ancient 13-3 and Dust2 13-4, with G2’s sole bright spot a 13-3 win on Anubis, to book the first EWC CS2 semifinal slot. That result came on the back of a comeback win over Aurora in the round before, extending what had already been a strong 2026 for the Brazilian side.

The Brazilian roster, which includes YEKINDAR, FalleN, KSCERATO, yuurih, and molodoy, had also posted two runner-up tournament finishes at IEM Cologne Major and IEM Kraków earlier in 2026. None of that converted into silverware in Paris. FUT Esports upset FURIA 2-1 in the semifinal, and Legacy then denied them a podium finish outright. Legacy beat FURIA 2-1 in the Esports World Cup’s third-place decider despite losing their Ancient pick 9-13, before turning it around with back-to-back 13-9 scores on Nuke and the Dust2 decider.

YEKINDAR’s Growing Role on the T-Side

The bigger storyline heading out of EWC is who calls FURIA’s shots once FalleN steps away. In a podcast with Alexandre “Gaules” Borba, Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo revealed that FURIA have been giving Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis more responsibility for calling and testing him in the IGL role, ostensibly to prepare for FalleN’s retirement at the end of the year. According to FalleN, YEKINDAR already has considerable influence on how the game is called, usually being responsible for the team’s gameplan on the CT-side, but FURIA are now having YEKINDAR also call T-sides on some maps.

That is not a small trial run. FalleN credited YEKINDAR as the man responsible for FURIA’s win against Aurora, with the Latvian being responsible for the calls on Ancient’s T-side. Ancient itself is part of the experiment: the map had been FURIA’s permaban before this season.

YEKINDAR, for his part, has tried to keep the speculation in perspective. Speaking to HLTV after the win over G2 that sent FURIA into the EWC semifinal, he addressed rumours that he or molodoy could be moved on as the org plans for life after FalleN. “It’s completely logical that everybody’s looking at options… If things are not going to be working out, there’s no good options [to replace FalleN] or whatever, it’s completely normal for people to look for other perspectives,” YEKINDAR said.

sidde on Discipline and the Countdown to FalleN’s Exit

FURIA’s coach struck a more sober tone than the players once the tournament wrapped. In comments to Dust2.com.br, sidde said the team’s problem was not talent but consistency, telling the outlet the squad would keep falling short of titles without more discipline in how they approach matches. FalleN echoed the disappointment after the exit, reflecting simply that the run “felt like it wasn’t meant to be.”

The clock is a factor in every one of those comments. FalleN has confirmed he will retire from active competition at the end of 2026, and the organisation now has a matter of months to decide whether YEKINDAR takes the reins full-time, whether an outside signing is needed, or whether the calling load simply gets split further among the current five.

Next Stop, BLAST Open Porto

FURIA are not getting a long break to sort it out. The team is already confirmed for BLAST Open Porto 2026, and the entry list shows no immediate changes: FalleN, yuurih, YEKINDAR, KSCERATO and molodoy remain the active five, with sidde still in the coaching chair.

That gives FURIA a near-term target to test whatever calling split they settle on before the bigger question of a permanent IGL has to be answered. For now, YEKINDAR keeps splitting duties with FalleN map by map, with Ancient’s T-side as his current proving ground.
