Legacy Stun Team Falcons, Reach Esports World Cup 2026 CS2 Semifinals

Legacy swept Team Falcons 2-0 in the Counter-Strike 2 quarterfinals of the Esports World Cup 2026, knocking out the reigning IEM Cologne Major champions and booking a spot in Friday’s semifinal in Paris. The Brazilian side took the series opener on Mirage 13-7 before closing it out on Dust2, extending a run of upsets that has already seen them dispatch NAVI in the round of 16.

The win means Legacy, who entered the bracket ranked far below Falcons, will now face the winner of Vitality against Spirit for a place in the EWC 2026 grand final.

A Mirage Statement Sets the Tone

Falcons looked in control for large stretches of the opening map, taking control of the opening map of Mirage and winning seven of eight rounds in the middle of their CT-side on the map. Bruno “latto” Rebelatto and Vinicius “n1ssim” Pereira anchored that defense so thoroughly that Legacy never dropped a round on the CT side, sealing Mirage 13-7.

Falcons Fight Back on Dust2 But Can’t Close It

Dust2 looked initially like Falcons’ map to lose. Legacy won the pistol and pushed their lead to 9-5, but lost the initiative the following round after karrigan and René ‘TeSeS’ Madsen’s pistol kills shifted the game. That swing handed Nikola “NiKo” Kovač a rifle he used to slow Legacy’s momentum, and the Major champions clawed their way back into contention.

It wasn’t enough. Legacy held their nerve to finish the series 2-0, a result the tournament’s official social channels flagged in real time by declaring the Brazilian side through to the last four of the CS2 event.

n1ssim’s Return Pays Off Immediately

The win continues a stretch of good form built on a roster tweak. Legacy were led by Vinicius “n1ssim” Pereira, who was recently moved back into the active roster, and the Brazilian put up a huge 36 frag performance against NAVI to lead his side to the quarterfinals. Against Falcons he again played a central role in Legacy’s defensive stand on Mirage.

Legacy’s route to the semifinal has been anything but smooth. They lost 0-2 to FaZe in the upper bracket, but responded with a 2-0 victory over MIBR before eliminating NAVI 2-0 in the Round of 16. That NAVI win, a lopsided 13-9, 13-2 result, had already marked Legacy as the tournament’s most dangerous underdog before they backed it up against the top seed.

A Costly Delay for Falcons’ $7 Million Chase

The elimination carries financial weight beyond the CS2 bracket itself. The loss for Falcons means they will have to wait to guarantee the EWC Club Championship and the $7,000,000 that comes with first place, the cross-game standings race that rewards organizations for cumulative performance across every title they field at the festival. Falcons had been considered one of the clubs best placed to win that title, and a deep CS2 run was central to that push.

Falcons had arrived in France in ferocious form, sweeping The MongolZ in the round of 16 behind a career-best performance from Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin. The quarterfinal exit halts that run at the hands of a team they’d already lost to once this year, with Legacy having taken a 3-1 win over Falcons at the CS Asia Championships in May.

Spirit or Vitality Awaits in the Semifinal

Legacy now sit on the opposite side of the bracket from Vitality and Spirit, two of the tournament’s other heavyweights who were still fighting for their own semifinal spot as Legacy’s win was confirmed. Vitality had already dispatched FaZe Clan in their own quarterfinal to set up the clash with Spirit, meaning Legacy’s semifinal opponent was not yet settled at the time of writing.

Whichever side advances, Legacy will enter as clear underdogs once more — a role that has suited them all week in Paris.
