Fortnite Override Adds 14 NPCs, But Only 3 Hireable Specialists

Fortnite’s new season, Override, went live on August 20, 2026, and brought with it a full reshuffle of the island’s support cast. Fourteen NPCs are now scattered across the map, but only three of them can be hired to fight alongside a squad, an unusually thin roster for a mechanic that normally offers four distinct combat roles.

Epic Games confirmed the release in a post on X, closing out Chapter 7 Season 3 with a live event before the switch to Override. The season carries the tagline “Break the Rules, Change the Game,” and its theme is Gaming Legends, built around a story in which Geno teams up with Dr. Eggman to hack the island’s systems, a partnership first set up in the Fortnite Sonic comic.

Fourteen NPCs, One Flat Price List

Fourteen NPC characters can be found across the Chapter 7 Season 4 map, confirmed independently by Destructoid and TechWiser trackers. Most offer a useful service for 500 Gold Bars, while three can be hired for 350 Gold Bars.

The vendors cluster around a handful of named locations. Wrixel can be found around Shaken Sanctuary, offering maximum ammo for 500 Gold, and sits reasonably close to Stone Sanctum and Reality’s Reign. Phantom is at The Battlewoods, where talking to him gives the option to restore 100 Health or Shields for 500 Gold. Sonic the Hedgehog himself doubles as a vendor this season: he is stationed at Green Hill Zone and offers a Rift for 500 Gold, letting players launch away from the POI quickly.

The Order, The Guardian and The Singularity Fill Three of Four Roles

Only three characters can actually be recruited to fight. The Order is a Scout Specialist, The Guardian is a Medic Specialist and The Singularity is a Supply Specialist, each hireable for 350 gold bars. That is cheaper than a single health top-up.

Destructoid flagged the gap directly. As of the time of writing there are only three Specialists to hire, which is unusual since there’s normally at least four, one of each type, and a Heavy Specialist is the missing role. No Assault or Heavy option has surfaced since launch.

Dr. Eggman and Hush Guard Green Hill Zone and The Battlewoods

Two boss NPCs sit apart from the regular vendor list. There are currently two boss NPCs, Dr. Eggman and Hush, and Dr. Eggman can be found around the Green Hill Zone POI. He does not fight on foot: he fights from his Eggmobile pod rather than on foot, opening fire from above the moment he spots an approaching player.

Hush is a returning face rather than a new addition. She is a returning boss from a past season, found around Battlewoods and Reality’s Reign, and drops a Mythic Enhanced Assault Rifle and a Tetris Rift when defeated, a nod to the season’s confirmed Tetris tie-in.

Gaming Legends Crossovers Beyond Sonic

The Sonic collaboration is only one piece of the season’s branding. Collabs such as Sonic the Hedgehog, 99 Nights In The Forest, and Tetris have been confirmed for Override, tying the boss encounters and vendor cast directly to the Gaming Legends theme rather than treating them as one-off cosmetics.

Whether Epic fills the missing Heavy Specialist slot with a mid-season update remains an open question on the roster sheet. For now, players dropping into Override have three hired guns, two bosses worth hunting for loot, and a flat 500-gold price tag on everything else.
