Schell Games introduced Dragon Grove at Meta Connect 2026 on September 23, a free-to-play mixed reality puzzle game that pairs players with dragons to grow magical gardens. Dragon Grove, an all-new cozy 3D puzzle game developed by Schell Games, was introduced at Meta Connect 2026, coming exclusively to Meta VR Glasses and Meta Quest 3 and 3S and leveraging mixed reality technology to bring magical dragons and plant-based puzzles into players’ real-world spaces. The studio, founded by Jesse Schell and known for the I Expect You To Die series, is aiming for a Spring 2027 launch alongside the new headset itself.

Grovekeepers, Dragon Memories and 200-Plus Levels

Dragon Grove places players in the role of Grovekeepers chosen by dragons to help them in this magical world, solving spatial puzzles and matching plant elements like leaves and flowers to cultivate flourishing garden groves, with completed groves triggering a surge of magic that awakens dragon memories and unlocks powerful abilities for future puzzle-solving. Meta’s own description of the game frames the interactions in physical terms rather than abstract menu taps. Players step into the charming, cozy world of Dragon Grove, partnering with dragons to solve 3D puzzles and cultivate plants by matching leaves, buds and flowers, and along the way engage with dragon companions by reaching out to cradle, pet and wave to them.

On the content side, Schell Games has already put a number on the launch scope. The game will feature deep 3D puzzle gameplay across 200-plus levels that scale in difficulty as players discover new groves, alongside dragon customization that unlocks a variety of dragons with their own looks, personalities and abilities, personalized with cosmetics like hats and tail charms using earned or purchased coins.

Free-to-Play With Coins, Cosmetics and Daily Streaks

UploadVR’s reporting from the show floor filled in how the free-to-play structure will actually run day to day. The new game from veteran developer Schell Games, maker of Among Us 3D and I Expect You To Die, will launch free-to-play with in-app purchases, including daily streak rewards and cosmetics such as hats, accessories and power-ups for the player’s dragon. That puts Dragon Grove in the same monetisation lane as most mobile match games, just rebuilt for a headset rather than a phone screen.

Jesse Schell, the studio’s CEO, tied the announcement directly to the platform relationship rather than treating it as a standalone launch. “Meta has been an incredible partner to Schell Games and having the opportunity to introduce Dragon Grove at Meta Connect is especially exciting for us,” said Jesse Schell, CEO of Schell Games. The game can already be wishlisted on the Meta Horizon Store ahead of the spring window.

Part of a 75-Game Push for Meta VR Glasses

Dragon Grove is one piece of a much larger hand-tracking push tied to the Meta VR Glasses launch. Road to VR reported that Meta has promised 75-plus games and apps optimized for hand gesture input, with headliners including a modified version of Beat Saber for hand-tracking, 3D puzzle game Dragon Grove, courtroom sim Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies, and a modified version of Tetris Effect for hand-tracking. Unlike some of those titles, Dragon Grove was built from the ground up for the format rather than retrofitted onto an existing release.

The Escapist’s rundown of the Connect slate grouped Dragon Grove with a handful of other day-one and near-term arrivals for the platform. Two Point Hospital VR brings the hospital sim to an advanced hand-tracking interface, while Dragon Grove launches alongside the hardware itself as a cozy, hands-only puzzle game, with Story of Seasons, Your Wonderful Life, Cardmada and Dice Throne Digital rounding out the announced slate. All of it points toward Spring 2027 as the moment Meta wants a stack of native, controller-optional titles ready the same week the glasses ship.

Dragon Grove is available to wishlist now on the Meta Horizon Store, with a full trailer and press kit already published through Schell Games’ own channels.
