Flat2VR Studios and Squanch Games used the VR Games Showcase to confirm High on Life VR, a full headset rebuild of the 2022 comedy shooter, targeting Meta Quest 3 and 3S, PSVR2 and SteamVR headsets in 2027. Wishlisting opened immediately on the Horizon Store, Steam and the PlayStation Store.

The reveal trailer paired new gameplay footage with developer interviews explaining how the studio is reworking the flatscreen original for room-scale play. The behind-the-scenes look covers work Flat2VR is doing on the game’s living guns, traversal, and NPC interactions, translating them into VR-native mechanics.

Rebuilding Blim City for a Headset

High on Life originally launched in 2022 as a flatscreen shooter built around a set of talking, opinionated weapons called Gatlians. These guns are aliens known as Gatlians who serve as constant, often-unhinged companions as players fight cartel members across the galaxy, and over the course of the adventure players team up with five talking guns and one extremely violent knife.

Flat2VR is not simply porting the camera into a headset. The overhaul touches shop interactions, character beats around the city, and physical reload mechanics for the game’s weaponry. Meta’s own announcement post frames the shift in more tactile terms: in VR, players are not just fighting their way through Blim City, they can reach out and touch it.

Flat2VR Game Director Emily O’Neal described the design goal for handling the sentient weapons directly. In Squanch Games’ own announcement, she said: “We really want you to feel like you’re holding living creatures in your hands.”

Native on Quest, No Word Yet on a Release Date

Road to VR reported a technical detail that stood out from the reveal: the studio says the game can already run natively on Quest, which is no small feat. Beyond the 2027 window, no firm date has been set. There’s no release date yet beyond the 2027 window for High on Life VR, which will be separate from the flatscreen original.

On PlayStation, the VR version will sit apart from the existing flatscreen release and will require a PS VR2 headset rather than working as a simple compatibility patch. The PC version arrives through Steam for SteamVR-compatible headsets, giving PC VR owners a dedicated build instead of a Quest-only standalone release.

Flat2VR’s Track Record and a Second Project on the Same Bill

Flat2VR Studios built its reputation on fan-made VR mods before moving into officially sanctioned ports, and the same showcase slot carried a second announcement from the studio. Flat2VR Studios is also working with Nightdive Studios on System Shock VR, which will bring the influential sci-fi horror game to virtual reality, placing players inside Citadel Station, the corporate space station controlled by the rogue artificial intelligence SHODAN.

For High on Life, the pitch stays close to the source material’s premise. The adaptation will revisit the original game’s alien cartel invasion, in which humans are discovered to be usable as an intergalactic drug, leaving players to become a bounty hunter fighting back. Squanch Games has not detailed pricing, a demo, or platform-specific control schemes beyond the confirmed headset list. The studio’s social channels remain the stated source for further updates ahead of the 2027 launch window.
