Blizzard hotfixed Mythic Ula’tek on September 2, changing how the Phase 2 egg-carrying mechanic deals damage to raiders, the company confirmed in its official hotfix notes. The tweak lands as Team Liquid, Echo and Method remain stuck fighting for the first Mythic kill of World of Warcraft’s Midnight Season 2 finale.

Damage from carrying eggs is now treated as periodic damage instead of direct damage. That single line reclassifies one of the fight’s core survivability checks, since periodic damage interacts differently with absorbs, healing throughput and defensive cooldown timing than a single direct hit. Wowhead’s news desk flagged the change under the headline Mythic Ula’tek has now been nerfed for the Race to World First guilds.

Raiders online are debating whether the egg change is a genuine buff to survivability or mostly a rounding fix that barely moves pull counts:

September 2 Hotfix: What Actually Changed on Ula’tek

Beyond the egg-carrying adjustment, Blizzard’s patch notes list a cluster of bug fixes tied directly to the encounter. The duration of the Greasy Hatchling debuff was raised, with the company noting it increased the duration of Greasy Hatchling to 35 seconds, was 20 seconds, giving raid groups more time to manage the effect once it lands.

Several other corrections targeted edge cases rather than raw tuning. Blizzard fixed a bug preventing the encounter from resetting when no players were alive in Ula’tek’s room, closing off a wipe-recovery headache guilds had been working around manually. The company also addressed a targeting failure, noting it fixed an issue where the targeting of Mother’s Wrath could fail, causing Ula’tek to use her raid wide damage despite the tank being in the bubble, and cleaned up an over-application of a debuff during the fight’s climactic phase, stating an erroneous tenth stack of Stone Venom is no longer applied to the current target during Ula’tek’s Mother’s Wrath.

No Mythic Kill Yet, Even After 310 Pulls on the Boss Before Her

The tuning pass arrives with the world’s best raiders still short of the finish line. PullCount’s live race tracker states plainly that no guild has killed Mythic Ula’tek yet, with pull counts and best percentages appearing as soon as guilds begin pulling.

Team Liquid was first to even reach the encounter, after a brutal penultimate wall. The guild claimed World First on Mythic The Coiled Altar in World of Warcraft’s The Venomous Abyss raid, clearing the penultimate boss after 310 pulls, with the kill happening around 05:50 BST on August 30, opening the way to Mythic Ula’tek. Echo and Method followed within a day, with Echo following with World Second on The Coiled Altar shortly after, while Method secured World Third on the morning of August 31.

Phase 2 and the Intermission Remain the Chokepoint

Progress tracking from Method’s own raid desk shows all three top guilds grinding through the same stretch of the fight in the days before this hotfix. One update logged Liquid at a fresh personal best, noting Liquid receiving a new best of 49.5% P3, pull 254 on Mythic Ula’Tek, while another entry recorded Method closing in with a new best attempt for Ula’tek of 63.2% P3 on Pull 240, a couple pulls after their previous new best of 65.4% P3.

That pattern, incremental gains through Phase 2 and into the Intermission rather than a clean run to the enrage timer, is exactly the kind of grind Blizzard’s periodic-damage change is aimed at easing. Whether it’s enough to break the wall is a question the next set of pulls will answer, not the patch notes.

The Hall of Fame Clock Is Still Running

Blizzard has already fixed the reward structure for whoever clears the fight, and for the guilds behind them. The company’s terms give the first two hundred guilds worldwide to defeat Ula’tek on Mythic the Hall of Fame feat of strength and the title “Famed Slayer of Ula’tek”.

Mythic Ula’tek also carries the Cutting Edge achievement and the Primeval Skyfriend mount for the wider raiding population once the tier’s world-first fight is settled. For now, that fight sits exactly where it did before September 2: three guilds deep in Phase 2, one freshly rebalanced boss, and zero confirmed kills.
