WoW: Blizzard Still Chasing Fix for Missing Sparks of Tides Bug
Blizzard says a September 2 update to restore missing Spark of Tides items didn't reach everyone, with more fixes expected within days.

- Blizzard says it expects most affected players restored within a few days

Blizzard has posted a second update on the Spark of Tides bug that has dogged World of Warcraft since the start of Midnight Season 2, confirming that an earlier fix did not reach every affected player. In a forum post dated September 2, the studio said it was
Blizzard said some players did not receive Sparks of Tides that were due to them, and that its previous remedy left a number of players still missing Sparks. The studio added it is continuing to work on the problem, is getting closer to a solution, and expects to restore Sparks to most affected players over the next few days.
Players on the official forums are split between relief that a fix is coming and frustration at how long the reagent has been broken:
A Reagent Introduced in Patch 12.1.0
Spark of Tides is the weekly crafting currency tied to Midnight Season 2, letting players craft epic-quality gear once enough have been banked. According to Warcraft Wiki’s patch history, the item was added in Patch 12.1.0 on August 11, 2026. Players collect it primarily through weekly quests, including turn-ins in Silvermoon City and objectives tied to the Coiled Isle zone that shipped with the same patch, as detailed by crafting guide site Method.
Sparks of Tides can be obtained by completing certain Weekly Quests that can be found in Silvermoon City or the new zone added in Midnight Patch 12.1, The Coiled Isle. That weekly drip-feed design is exactly what turned a minor currency glitch into a season-long headache: miss a week’s Spark through a bug, and there is no easy way to simply grind the shortfall back.
From Extra Sparks to Missing Sparks
The trouble started in the opposite direction from where it ended up. Icy Veins reported that Midnight Season 2 brought ongoing issues with the Spark of Tides crafting reagent, starting with players receiving extra Sparks, which resulted in a hotfix increasing the cap for Week 1 of the season, before the most recent issue saw players who were brought up to the Spark cap not receiving additional Sparks.
That early overflow was itself a byproduct of a quest quirk. Icy Veins separately noted that characters who had not completed the Midnight: World Tour quest from the start of the expansion were able to access a third Spark of Tides in one week, while characters who had already completed that quest in Season 1 could not repeat it, prompting Blizzard to raise the weekly cap so nobody lost currency to the discrepancy.
The August 25 Cleanup That Wasn’t Enough
Blizzard’s first attempt at a broad fix landed during weekly maintenance on August 25. The studio said it addressed issues affecting players who were missing Spark of Tides items during that maintenance, with additional cleanup waves to happen throughout the week to resolve rare cases where players had been accidentally granted Sparks over the cap, who might then have some removed.
Wowhead’s coverage of that update framed it the same way: Blizzard acknowledged issues with players receiving an incorrect number of Spark of Tides, which was to be corrected throughout the week. Forum threads from the following days show the cleanup was uneven. One bug report filed August 28 described a character sitting at full currency progress but only one physical Spark in the bag, while another EU forum post described the opposite problem, an accidental double grant that was clawed back before the original Sparks were ever restored.

What Happens Between Now and the Next Weekly Reset
Blizzard has not given an exact number of accounts affected, nor a precise completion date beyond “a few days” from the September 2 post. Given the pattern of the previous cleanup, corrections are likely to land in batches tied to server maintenance windows rather than all at once.
For crafters sitting on partial stacks and half-finished epic items, that means checking currency tabs after each maintenance rather than filing a fresh ticket every day. Blizzard says it will update the same forum thread once the restoration effort is complete.
