Blizzard Entertainment has published a detailed breakdown of character creation in World of Warcraft: Forever, laying out how all nine classes pair with every playable race, including six combinations that have never existed in the game before. The nine available classes each bring their own abilities and roles to the adventure, whether you prefer healing allies, dealing damage, protecting your group, or shifting between multiple roles with a few tradeoffs along the way.
Six New Combos: Orc Mage, Dwarf Shaman and Undead Paladin Among Them
World of Warcraft: Forever opens new ways to build your character, including Orc Mages, Troll Warlocks, Undead Paladins, Human Hunters, Gnome Priests, Dwarf Shamans, and the debut of the Skyborne. Icy Veins, which cross-referenced the same table, described the update as part of what Blizzard calls the game’s “third pillar,” the design layer meant to distinguish Forever from both Classic and the modern game.
Blizzard’s chart uses a simple X to mark which race can take which class, and the six new entries fill gaps that have sat empty since 2004: Horde players get their first Paladin option through the Undead, while Alliance Dwarves get access to Shaman for the first time.
Skyborne Split Into Windshaper and High-Order at Character Creation
The Skyborne are a new playable race in World of Warcraft: Forever, bringing their own identity to the unfolding story. When choosing to play this new race, players can choose between Horde-aligned Windshapers which can become Shaman, or an Alliance-aligned High-Order Skyborne which can become Mages.
Wccftech, reporting separately from BlizzCon 2026 briefings, added that Horde Skyborne keep stronger ties to elemental tradition and work alongside the Earthen Ring, granting access to the Shaman class, while Alliance Skyborne pursue their ancestors’ arcane legacy alongside the Kirin Tor, granting access to the Mage class. Both sides can also roll Warrior, Hunter, Rogue or Druid, per the same outlet.
Every Race Gets New or Reworked Racial Traits
Each playable race has its own racial traits, offering additional flavor and utility alongside your chosen class, and some of those traits have also been updated for World of Warcraft: Forever, with adjustments that better support the expanded class options. Blizzard frames the changes as preserving each race’s identity rather than replacing it.
Icy Veins pointed to specific examples pulled from the same blog, noting Orcs getting Shatter Curse, and Touch of the Grave for Forsaken. Neither ability existed in Classic’s original racial kit.

Beta Runs Through October 21 Ahead of November 4 Launch
The character-creation blog lands three weeks into public testing. Blizzard confirmed in its own beta update that the beta will be available through October 21, the last full day of testing, as we begin final preparations for the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever.
Variety independently confirmed the release window from BlizzCon, reporting Blizzard will launch “World of Warcraft Forever,” a game set during the first year of the original 2004 “WoW,” Nov. 4. Early Name Reservation for the new combinations opens October 27 and closes November 3, the day before servers go live.
