RaidPlan.io, the browser tool guilds use to draw up boss strategies, has shipped a run of updates timed to World of Warcraft’s Midnight Season 2. With Season 2 in full swing, RaidPlan.io has launched a large round of updates supporting the Venomous Abyss and the Tidebound Grotto. The headline addition, live since August 22, lets multiple raiders edit the same plan at once.

Real-Time Collaboration Goes Live August 22

According to RaidPlan.io’s own changelog, users may now join other users to make changes to plans in real-time, with collaboration starting immediately when two or more users open a plan in the editor, provided they are signed in to a RaidPlan account. The site’s operator, who signs changelog posts as ekto_, notes the feature will remain free for all users and is currently in beta.

For raid leaders who normally screen-share a static image while barking out assignments, shared editing removes a step. Officers and cooldown planners can now build a Venomous Abyss pull plan side by side instead of passing a link back and forth after every revision.

Venomous Abyss Plans Now Scale to In-Game Yards

An earlier update, dated August 5, addressed a long-standing gripe with third-party raid planners: backgrounds that don’t match actual arena size. RaidPlan.io’s notes state when creating plans for The Venomous Abyss, sizes and coordinates are now based on in-game yards. Older plans aren’t stuck on the old scale either, since switching the background to a newer one will enable this feature for plans made before the change.

The same patch added a dedicated Measure tool to calculate in-game distances, alongside a hotkey reference guide and new colour variants for class icons. A “Slots” feature was also introduced for assigning players to fixed positions, useful for split-soak mechanics like those on Entombed Sentinels.

July 25 Overhaul Brought Tidebound Grotto Into the Planner

The groundwork was laid on July 25, when RaidPlan.io pushed what it called a significant update that added the Tidebound Grotto lair as a plannable encounter ahead of Season 2’s launch. That release reworked the core planner rather than just adding a new boss to the list.

Per the changelog, guilds gained the ability to use a custom background while selecting a raid encounter, with steps that may include unique backgrounds from different bosses and even different raids. Plan notes picked up markdown formatting with optional headers and footers, and a live preview shows raid leaders exactly what viewers will see before they publish a step.

The same overhaul added undo and redo, layer management, custom vanity URLs for shared plans, and the ability to pin or tether objects to one another, so an icon marking a tank can drag a linked line or group of markers along with it. On the VOD review side, RaidPlan.io raised the cap on how many streams a plan can reference and added support for YouTube and unlisted video links alongside its existing Warcraft Logs and FFLogs integration.

What the Two Raids Actually Ask of Planners

The timing lines up with the content the updates were built for. Blizzard’s own patch notes confirm Midnight Season 2 brings the Venomous Abyss raid, a new Mythic+ rotation, PvP Season 2, and Prey across the Coiled Isle. The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid split into two wings after its opening encounter, which is exactly the kind of branching structure that benefits from linkable, per-step backgrounds rather than one static map.

Tidebound Grotto, the season’s first Lair, centres on a single boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, fought underwater near the Wreck of Gral’s Belly on the Coiled Isle. It runs across World, Normal, Heroic and flexible Mythic difficulties with a shared weekly lockout, meaning guilds may need separate plans for the same boss depending on which difficulty their raid team queues into that week.

RaidPlan.io’s changelog invites users to report issues through its Discord or directly to ekto_, the tool’s operator. The real-time collaboration feature remains in beta as of August 22, with no announced date for a full release out of that status.
