WoW’s Roll the Patrol Achievement Finally Unlockable in Vaults of Atal’Utek
A stalled Patch 12.1 achievement is now completable after new Temple Patrol variants rotated into the Vaults of Atal'Utek.
- Roll the Patrol requires clearing every Temple Patrol variant in the Vaults of Atal'Utek, added in Patch 12.1.0.
- Temple Patrols rotate on a 10-minute timer, so not every variant was live when the patch launched.
- Wowhead confirmed new patrols appeared roughly halfway through the patch's first week, unlocking the achievement.
- Roll the Patrol is one of ten criteria for the Assault the Vault meta-achievement, which rewards the Venomous Coiler mount.

An achievement that looked broken at the launch of World of Warcraft’s Patch 12.1 has quietly become completable again. Roll the Patrol, tied to the new Vaults of Atal’Utek zone, requires players to clear every Temple Patrol variant on offer — but for days after launch, not all of those variants were actually in rotation, leaving the achievement out of reach no matter how much time players sank into the zone.
Why Roll the Patrol Was Stuck at Launch
Roll the Patrol is an exploration achievement earned by completing all patrols within the Vaults of Atal’Utek, the new Temple Assault zone tucked into the Coiled Isle. It was added with Patch 12.1.0 on August 11, 2026, alongside the rest of the Vaults’ meta-achievement structure. The catch was that the full list of criteria — a dozen differently named patrol objectives — was never guaranteed to be live at the same time.
Completing Roll the Patrol means clearing all 12 patrol variants that can spawn inside the Vaults, according to a zone breakdown from Conquest Capped. Because the patrol pool is randomized rather than static, a handful of variants simply weren’t appearing during the opening days of the patch, no matter how many patrols players cleared.
Temple Patrols Run on a 10-Minute Rotation
The mechanic behind the holdup is the Vaults’ patrol timer. Each Temple Patrol location gives a bonus objective to complete, and Temple Patrols rotate every 10 minutes. With only a portion of the full variant pool cycling through at launch, players chasing the exploration achievement were effectively locked out until Blizzard’s rotation surfaced the missing entries.
That changed roughly a week into the patch. Wowhead reported that halfway through the first week of Patch 12.1, new Patrols and Strikes became available in the Vaults of Atal’Utek, allowing new achievements to be unlocked — Roll the Patrol among them, once the previously absent variants finally entered the mix.
One Piece of the Assault the Vault Meta
Roll the Patrol doesn’t stand alone. It’s one of ten objectives feeding into Assault the Vault, the meta-achievement earned by clearing Roll the Patrol, Submerge the Incursion, A Lone Wanderer, Ritual Behavior, The Honored Dead, Spike the Strike, Oppose the Foes, Dance While Everyone Watches, Soft Underbelly, and Fully Corroded across the zone’s full set of Public Events. Finishing the full meta rewards the Venomous Coiler ground mount, making it one of the more visible collectible chases tied to Patch 12.1’s Coiled Isle content.
The Vaults themselves layer several tiers of activity on top of each other. Temple Patrols are the entry point, feeding into Temple Strikes and eventually the larger, group-oriented Temple Incursions that cap off the zone’s event chain. Roll the Patrol sits at the bottom of that ladder, but it was the rotation quirk at that base tier — not any encounter difficulty — that kept completionists stalled.
What Fixed Achievement Hunters Can Expect Next
With the full patrol pool now cycling as intended, players working toward Assault the Vault no longer have to wait on a rotation gap to finish one of its easier legs. The bigger time sink remains elsewhere in the meta: the separate Pro Poison Patroller achievement demands 250 Temple Patrol completions for the Emerald Skyfang flying mount, a grind measured in weeks rather than a single rotation cycle. Roll the Patrol, by contrast, was always meant to be a short checklist — it just needed Blizzard’s rotation to actually deal every card in the deck.
